What is Audi TFSI?

Audi TFSI stands for Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection and is a petrol engine technology that blends the best elements of direct fuel injection technology with turbocharging. This unique Audi powertrain was the first turbocharged direct injection engine on the market when it was first introduced in the A3 back in 2004.

Turbocharging is a process wherein the exhaust gasses are used to drive a turbine, which in turn compresses the incoming air before it enters the combustion chamber. The process of increasing the density of the air/fuel mixture enhances the vehicle’s power output.

Meanwhile, Fuel Stratified Injection is a direct fuel injection technology that precisely delivers fuel into the combustion chamber, allowing for greater control over the fuel/air mixture.

These work in conjunction to improve the compression ratio within the cylinder, so that every single Audi TFSI engine extracts more performance out of every single drop of fuel. This increased compression ratio leads to better efficiency, thanks to the combination of these two advanced engine technologies.
