Interior and Exterior

Volvo Car designers have given the XC40 line-up a refresh to reinforce its cutting-edge design and modern statement. Aligned with Volvo’s electrification journey, a new front bumper and a frameless grille plate keep the all-electric XC40 Recharge visually in sync with the Volvo C40 Recharge.

The augmented state-of-art pixel LED light technology allows the signature Thor’s Hammer headlights to automatically adapt to traffic in front and efficiently light up the road ahead without dazzling other drivers. Additionally, new exterior colours and rims are also made available as well as premium-leather free upholstery options, offering customers wider personalisation options.

The XC40 is a living expression of responsible luxury with its full interior created without the use of any leather, plus its Fjord blue partially recycled carpets offer a more sustainable choice and a visually harmonising interior design feature. As you step inside the XC40, the topography inspired translucent back-lit décor welcomes you with a natural, soothing glow, and a contemporary vibe in the cabin.

Safety and Technology

The XC40 Recharge is equipped with new, scalable Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform. The new ADAS sensor platform is a modern scalable active system consisting of an array of radars, cameras, and ultrasonic sensors. This platform enables the deployment of active safety systems like pilot assist, autonomous braking, collision avoidance, and the detection of other road users. Furthermore, its scalable nature allows it to be further developed, laying the foundation for the future introduction of autonomous drive technology.

While building on the excellent safety standards of the original XC40, Volvo’s engineers had to completely redesign and reinforce the frontal structure of the vehicle given the absence of an engine, meeting Volvo’s high safety requirements and help occupants as safe as in any other Volvo.

The battery is embedded in the middle of the car’s structure, protected by a safety cage which consists of a frame extruded aluminum. Its location under the floor of the vehicle lowers the centre of gravity of the vehicle allowing for better protection against rollovers. At the rear, the electric powertrain has been integrated in the body structure to realise a better distribution of collision forces away from the cabin.

Connectivity and infotainment

Equipped with a next-generation infotainment system developed in collaboration with Google, the XC40 Recharge features built-in Google apps and services. With improved levels of intuitiveness, it offers the driver convenience and unprecedented personalisation, as well as an unparalleled connectivity through a new embedded Google technology and services such as the Google Assistant, Google Maps, and apps on Google Play.

Performance and Range

Say goodbye to range anxiety and enjoy worry-free long-distance journeys with the XC40 Recharge. The XC40 Recharge showcases impressive performance and range – with zero tailpipe emissions. With its powerful electric motor, the XC40 Recharge delivers up to 300kW of power and 600 Nm of torque, allowing instant and smooth acceleration going from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds*. Additionally, its electric range provides a range of up to 438 kilometres on a single charge, allowing for extended journeys without the need for frequent charging stops. The XC40 Recharge also supports fast charging, allowing you to charge from 10-80% in 28 minutes using a fast-charging station^.
