Volvo cars with cutting-edge Air Purification Technology
Spring is just around the corner and for some people, it’s a season of more sunshine, blossoming flowers, and enjoying the great outdoors. For others unfortunately, spring means more pollen in the air, allergies, and asthma.
According to the World Health Organisation and World Allergy Organisation, allergies, asthma, and air pollution negatively affect hundreds of people around the world.
In light of this, Volvo Cars is leading the way by offering customers ever-improving air quality inside its latest cars through cutting-edge air purification, helping people breathe cleaner air.
Part of the latest air purification technology, the Advanced Air Cleaner is available on the 90 and 60 series models. Certified asthma and allergy friendly by Allergy Standards Limited (ASL), it’s proven to remove up to 99.9 per cent of grass, tree and weed pollen allergies from incoming air.
Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) is an independent certification programme that assists consumers in identifying products that are suitable for people with asthma and allergies.
Volvo not only looks out for its customers’ safety but is also going out its way to look out for their health. Volvo believes that clean air provides a lot of benefits from personal health and safety perspectives and states to continue to work on improvements in this area for future car developments.
Dr. Maria Bernander, occupant health effects expert at Volvo Cars states that “by helping our customers improve the air quality inside their Volvo car, we will help reduce the adverse health effects associated with air pollution, allergens and fine particulates.” Studies also show that cleaner air has also been linked to boosting concentration.
A feature of the air purification shows live data of actual outdoor pollen and air quality levels in the car’s centre display which allows drivers to assess whether to purify the air in the cabin of their car. This in-house developed app makes Volvo Cars the first car maker to provide live data of outdoor pollen to drivers.
Many urban areas suffer from PM 2.5 levels which exceeds the recommended levels by the World Health Organisation underlining the importance to minimise its impact.
Thanks to a synthetic fibre-based filter and ionisation in Volvo Cars’ Advanced Air Cleaner, up to 95 per cent of all PM 2.5 particles are kept out of the cabin in our 60 and 90 series models. Furthermore, the Advanced Air Cleaner can remove more than 97 per cent of airborne viruses and 99 per cent of pollen that try to enter the cabin via the air filter and remove existing viral levels in the vehicle by up to 95 per cent.
The technology has been proven to be highly effective against airborne viruses based on results from recent tests performed by the independent Austrian research and testing institue OFI. The Advanced Air Cleaner has been tested against timothy grass, birch tree and ragweed pollens by ASL and against Phi6 and MS2 viruses by OFI.
