Volvo EX90

Expand your Horizons with the Volvo EX90

Just when it seems Volvo’s ingenuity has peaked, they continue to push boundaries even further, setting new benchmarks in vehicle innovation. With a steadfast global commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and an ambitious goal to become a climate-neutral company by 2040, Volvo is making significant strides in the future of mobility. Their ongoing efforts are shaping the direction of the automotive industry, especially in what they are best known for, vehicle safety.

The new Volvo EX90 is not just a new vehicle model, it is Volvo’s largest electric SUV that sets the company’s highest level of standard safety ever and is expected to arrive on New Zealand shores in 2025.

We all know sometimes life gets in the way, which is when we can rest assured that we can depend on Volvo to step in.

Below we explore the new and latest safety addition to the EX90.

Exterior sensing.

Driver Sensors

The Volvo EX90 has two interior sensors and a capacitive steering wheel that feeds information about the driver to an algorithm, communicating with the car’s exterior sensors. This system helps understand what state the driver is in, for example, drowsy or distracted, then knowing when it may need to “step in and support”.

Occupant Sensing

The vehicle also features a new “occupant sensing” system, designed to help prevent passengers from being inadvertently left behind in a potentially dangerous situation. For example, the car will alert you if it looks like you’re accidentally locking a sleeping child, or a snoozing dog in the car.

Straight Crossing Path

To further assist the driver through crossings, the new EX90 will not only react to oncoming vehicles when making a left turn, but it can also emergency brake to help avoid collisions.

LiDAR

Volvo has introduced LiDAR as a standard to the EX90. This advanced exterior sensor set with radars, cameras, and ultrasonic, is complemented by a LiDAR that continuously scans the area in front of the car. This setup provides a precise 3D understanding of the surroundings, accurately estimating the shape and size of the objects. By integrating this environmental data with driver state monitoring, the system can detect when the driver needs extra support and implement measures to maintain safety.

Pilot Assist

The Volvo EX90 Pilot Assist enhances driver assistance for smoother, more relaxing journeys. It monitors traffic and lane markings, adjusting speed and distance based on current conditions. The system manages speed in curves, aids in land changes, and can bring the car to a stop if the driver becomes unresponsive.
