Porsche has a universal appeal, and it’s clear that women in Christchurch share that passion. Our fourth annual Archibalds Porsche Ladies’ Night proved this once again, with demand for the event stronger than ever.
This year, we put art in the spotlight, with the talented Jonny Niechse as our headliner, captivating guests with his creativity and insight. The evening was perfectly complemented by a collaboration with Black Estate and Gin Drinkers Line, who curated the food and beverages, creating a sensory experience that matched the artistry on display.
Porsche isn’t just about performance and luxury, it’s about creating experiences that inspire, connect, and celebrate shared passions.
Guests were invited to arrive at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start and, true to form, our Porsche guests were right on time. As the doors to the Archibalds Porsche Christchurch showroom opened, the space quickly filled with conversation, laughter and the unmistakable energy that comes when a room full of Porsche enthusiasts gathers together.
To set the tone for the evening, guests were welcomed with a selection of award-winning wines and perfectly crafted amuse-bouche from North Canterbury’s renowned Black Estate. Glasses of their Pét Nat proved a popular way to begin the night. Light, vibrant and celebratory, it was the ideal accompaniment to the atmosphere building in the showroom.
From there, the culinary experience continued under the guidance of Black Estate head chef Olly Le Maitre. Their team circulated throughout the room with an impressive array of canapés, each as refined as the last. Venison tartare, freshly shucked oysters and delicate pâté were among the highlights, with each bite showcasing the thoughtful, seasonal approach that Black Estate has become known for.
About Black Estate
Black Estate is a family-owned winery and restaurant located in the hills of Waipara Valley, North Canterbury. Owned and operated by the Naish family.
With a strong focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture, Black Estate approaches winemaking with care and respect for the land, allowing the character of the vineyards to shine through in every bottle.
Their restaurant champions seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, many of which are grown directly on the estate itself. The result is food that feels honest, thoughtful and deeply connected to the place it comes from.
For those who appreciate exceptional wine, beautiful food and relaxed North Canterbury hospitality, a visit to Black Estate is well worth the short drive from Christchurch.
As drinks and canapés continued to circulate and guests settled into the evening, Naveya & Sloane, a local high-end jewellery house, set up a beautiful display within the showroom. Guests were invited to try on a selection of their impeccable pieces, adding a touch of sparkle to the night. The jewellery proved a popular talking point and brought a sophisticated diamond flair that perfectly complemented the occasion.
Before long, guests began taking their seats. Archibalds’ own and much-loved Andre Waller officially welcomed everyone, sharing a few housekeeping notes before introducing our host for the evening, Conor Patton. With his quick wit and effortless charm, Conor proved a marvellous host, drawing comparisons to a Graham Norton-style interviewer as he welcomed the man of the evening, artist Jonny Niesche.
Set against the backdrop of one of Jonny’s striking artworks, the two settled into a lively 45-minute conversation that was as entertaining as it was insightful. They explored Jonny’s childhood, family, creative inspirations and the path that led him to become one of Australia’s most recognisable contemporary artists. Throughout the discussion, Black Estate waitstaff continued to weave through the room, ensuring glasses were topped up and guests were well looked after.
Jonny’s story is a fascinating one and it clearly resonates through his work. He credited one of his earliest artistic moments to spray painting the ‘for sale’ sign outside his family home, a small act of creativity that, in hindsight, hinted at what was to come. Today, his inspiration often comes from turning things he doesn’t like into something he does, transforming ideas and experiences into bold, captivating artworks.
The conversation was engaging, thoughtful and often humorous, giving guests a rare insight into the mind behind the art while creating a relaxed and memorable atmosphere in the showroom.
As the evening progressed, the atmosphere grew even livelier, with guests eagerly sampling the handcrafted G&Ts and expertly mixed martinis. These drinks were the creation of the talented and entrepreneurial Julianne Liebeck, owner of Mod’s Hair and the founder of her own gin venture, the Gin Drinkers Line. Each serve showcased her creativity and attention to detail, perfectly balancing flavour and finesse, and quickly became a favourite among the ladies. It was a playful, delicious addition to the night that kept conversations flowing and spirits high.
About Gin Drinkers Line
The Gin Drinkers Line is Julianne Liebeck’s artisanal gin brand, born from a passion for flavour, quality and innovation. Each gin is carefully crafted using premium botanicals, designed to be bold, unique and endlessly versatile. Perfect for cocktails or simply enjoyed over ice, the Gin Drinkers Line has quickly earned a reputation for bringing a fresh, vibrant twist to New Zealand’s gin scene.
To round off the night, decadent cheese platters made the rounds, much like Jonny himself, who remained in high demand as guests eagerly seized the chance to pick his creative brain even further. As the evening drew to a close, guests began to slowly make their way out, each leaving with one of our thoughtfully curated goodie bags, packed with a selection of fantastic products from local businesses, a final treat to remember the night by.
The night wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people and businesses who helped bring it all together. A huge thank you to Jonny Niesche for sharing his stories and inspiring us with his artistry, and to Conor Patton for keeping the conversation engaging and entertaining.
We’re also immensely grateful to Black Estate for their exceptional wines and culinary delights, and to the Gin Drinkers Line for keeping spirits high with her creative cocktails. Both of these local businesses brought something unique to the evening, and we encourage everyone to continue supporting them.
Finally, to our wonderful guests, thank you for joining us, for your energy, curiosity, and love of Porsche. Your enthusiasm is what makes evenings like this so special, and we look forward to welcoming you back to future Archibalds Porsche events.
It was truly a night to remember.
