What’s New in the Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 has been a cornerstone of the Audi SUV line-up for more than a decade, and for good reason. Now in its third generation, the current Audi Q5 builds on a well-established reputation, bringing sharper design, smarter technology and improved efficiency to one of Audi’s most popular models in New Zealand.

At Archibalds Audi, the home of Audi in Canterbury, the Q5 continues to be a go-to choice for drivers wanting a premium SUV that balances performance, comfort and everyday practicality.

What Sets the Current Audi Q5 Apart

The latest-generation Audi Q5 is the first Audi SUV built on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). This platform underpins Audi’s newest petrol-powered models and allows for greater efficiency, improved driving dynamics and a more advanced digital experience.

Key updates over previous generations include:

  • PPC architecture for improved refinement and performance
  • MHEV plus mild hybrid technology across the range
  • Updated infotainment and operating concept
  • Customisable digital lighting signatures
  • Expanded driver assistance systems
  • Improved interior space and flexibility

Rather than reinventing the Q5, Audi has refined what already works, focusing on technology, efficiency and usability.

Confident Design, Inside and Out

The third-generation Q5 carries a more athletic and purposeful look. A wider Singleframe grille, sharper Matrix LED headlights and a strong shoulder line give the SUV a planted stance on the road. At the rear, digital OLED lighting and a full-width light strip enhance both safety and visual presence.

Inside, the Q5 features a clean, driver-focused cabin. The Audi virtual cockpit, central MMI display and AI-supported Audi assistant combine to create an intuitive, modern driving environment that feels premium without being overcomplicated.

Efficient Performance for Everyday Driving

All Audi Q5 models feature MHEV plus mild hybrid technology, supporting the petrol engine with a 48-volt electrical system. This improves fuel efficiency, enables smoother stop-start operation and allows limited electric manoeuvring at low speeds.

The Q5 S line is powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine producing 150 kW and 340 Nm, paired with quattro all-wheel drive as standard. It delivers confident performance in a wide range of driving conditions, from city commuting to open-road touring.

For drivers wanting more performance, the SQ5 and SQ5 Sportback sit at the top of the range, powered by a 3.0-litre V6 TFSI producing 270 kW and 550 Nm.

Practicality That Fits Real Life

The Q5 remains one of the most practical SUVs in its segment. Interior space has been improved, with generous head and legroom and a flexible rear seat system that slides and reclines to prioritise passenger comfort or cargo capacity.

With the rear seats folded, the boot expands to up to 1,473 litres, making it well suited to family life, work commitments or weekend escapes.

Everyday convenience features include:

  • Cooled wireless phone charging
  • Multiple USB-C ports front and rear
  • Larger centre console storage
  • Thoughtful cabin storage throughout
