Is the Audi Q3 Right For You?

With a number of Audi Q3 options having recently arrived at our Christchurch showroom, we thought now would be a good time to reintroduce you to this highly versatile vehicle, and also explain just why it’s New Zealand’s most popular Audi year-to-date.

The Audi Q3 is an obvious choice if you want a small, premium SUV and it’s really not hard to see why it sells so well… if you bought the Q3 you wouldn’t regret it for a second’ – Parkers

Who is the Audi Q3 for?

If you identify with any of the following, the Q3 is a good fit.

  • You appreciate a premium badge
  • You like luxury styling without wanting to appear obnoxious
  • You have a taste for outstanding driving performance
  • Brand heritage and pedigree is important to you
  • You like the idea of a hatchback’s handling but need an SUV’s practical features

If you’re already an Audi fan, we don’t need to tell you about the brand’s exceptional heritage, so instead here are a few other reasons that the Audi Q3 makes for all the car you need right now.

Any stand-out features that would impress?

Models in the Q3 line-up include the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a customisable digital display to replace the traditional dials.

On top of this, while you’ll have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, mobile integration is taken to the next level with Audi Connect as standard on all models.

To understand Audi Connect, imagine you have an app on your smartphone that allows you to view realtime information on your car, and even – in some cases – actually control some of your car’s features remotely.

How does this look? Say you’ve just parked up and are at the office. A family member calls and says they’re at your car and have something to drop off for you, but you don’t have time to meet them there. You can unlock and then re-lock your car from an app.

Or perhaps you’ve lost your car in a dark carpark; you can remotely activate the headlights and even activate the horn. Worried about the security of your car at night, or even worried a younger family member may take your car without permission? Set a virtual geofence around your home and be notified if your vehicle leaves the area.

You can even set an alert on your phone if your vehicle goes over a particular speed – all of us with teenagers learning to drive can see how that one might work! These services, and more, are included for three years with your new Audi Q3.

How does it drive?

In short, like an Audi. The best of German engineering. The range opens with the 35 TFSI Advanced, featuring an economical (6.6 litres per 100 km combined) 1.5L Turbo Petrol engine that punches well above its weight, with 110 kW of power and 250 Nm of torque which allows this SUV to tow 1,800kg braked yet with a Clean Car rating of neutral (no fee or rebate).

This power is delivered through Audi’s smooth 7-speed automatic ‘S tronic’ transmission. It only gets better from there, with the 45 TFSI boasting a 2 litre engine, 180kW of power and 370 Nm of torque with Audi’s legendary quattro all-wheel drive helping to power the vehicle to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds… and that’s even before you start checking out the RS Q3 (spoiler alert: 0-100 in 4.5 seconds!). More on that monster below.

Audi Drive Select allows you to adjust the vehicle’s handling to suit your environment, while electromechanical steering with speed dependent assistance allows this SUV’s handling to remain light and responsive. You’ll feel this on your next test drive.

What’s it like to live with?

While it’s at the premium end of the market, Audi has ensured that this is a car that’s very easy to live with.

Over the Audi A3 hatchback, an elevated ride-height makes the vehicle easier to get in and out of, while split folding rear seats grow the boot space to 1,525 litres (for comparison, the A3 is around 1,220 litres with the seats flat).

With tasteful alloy wheels, sporty features, and LED lighting, you can park the Q3 in your driveway and the neighbourhood will appreciate the stylish and understated looks, or pick the kids up from school to approving looks from other parents. It’s ‘family’ enough to make for an excellent road trip vehicle, while ‘executive’ enough to pick up clients (or the in-laws) from the airport.

The Audi Connect package, mentioned above, adds a number of clever features that make the Audi Q3 all the more engaging to own, while also offering some nice conversation starters at the next family get-together.
