Archibalds Audi Supports Kea Aerospace’s High-Altitude Milestone

At Archibalds Audi, we’re proud to support local organisations that are shaping the future, and few are doing that quite like Kea Aerospace.

The Christchurch-based company recently achieved a major milestone, successfully capturing high-resolution imagery from more than 42,000 feet above the Earth using its solar-powered Kea Atmos Mk1b aircraft. The flight, conducted south of Banks Peninsula, demonstrated the potential for near real-time aerial intelligence that could support applications such as maritime awareness, environmental monitoring, and disaster response.

The mission was operated remotely from Kea Aerospace’s Christchurch headquarters, with payload support provided live from Germany by the German Aerospace Center (DLR). It’s an impressive example of Kiwi innovation making an impact on the global stage.

Archibalds Audi was proud to support the mission by providing the Audi A6 e-tron Avant during launch operations. As Audi’s first fully electric Avant, it was a fitting companion for a company pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.

This achievement is just one step in Kea Aerospace’s journey. Following a successful fundraising round and expansion into larger premises, the team is now developing the next-generation Kea Atmos Mk2, a significantly larger aircraft designed for multi-month missions in the stratosphere.
