The Archibalds Ladies’ Cricket Day

One of our most recent highlights was welcoming a group of our “Archibalds Ladies” to a One Day International (ODI) cricket match between New Zealand’s White Ferns and South Africa’s Proteas. Bringing everyone together for an afternoon of sport, connection, and five-star hospitality felt like the perfect way to celebrate the women who are part of our Archibalds family.

Hosted in the elegant Miles Group Lounge, the Sunday early‑afternoon experience began with our team proudly singing the National Anthem, setting an energised mood before the first ball was bowled and the match got underway.

Being the first to bat, the White Ferns set the tone of the match by posting 268, led by Maddy Green’s 85 off 83 balls, but she was kept in check by Ayabonga Khaka, who took 6-56 in excellent bowling conditions. The Proteas started their chase nervously at 30 for 2, but a 123-run partnership between Annerie Dercksen (72) and Sune Luus (53) steadied the innings.

The thrilling finish and match-winning moment came from 20-year-old debutant Kayla Reyneke, who arrived at number 8 needing 79 off 75 balls and struck a brilliant 42 not out from 32 deliveries. Despite the White Ferns taking wickets throughout the chase, Reyneke’s fearless innings sealed a dramatic victory for South Africa in a truly scintillating contest.

Off the field, the atmosphere was just as enjoyable. Throughout the game, our guests relaxed in the comfort of our namesake lounge, sipping prosecco and mingling with new and familiar faces. Conversations flowed easily as many compared stories of their Archibalds vehicles and shared their weekend details.

A curated selection of canapés, from luxury beef sliders, arancini, to house made sourdough and Mediterranean-style nibbles added to the experience, bringing a touch of indulgence to an already memorable afternoon.
