Defender and Volvo Take Top Spots for Parents Family Car Awards

As winter approaches and a new school term has not long ago begun, maybe it’s got you questioning your current vehicle status. Look no further and question no more. It was recently announced by Parents that the Land Rover Defender and Volvo XC90 have taken top honours – earning titles such as Best Luxury Mid-Size 3-Row, Best Luxury Hybrid/PHEV, and Best Adventure SUV.

Determining the Winners

When voting for the Parents 2026 Best Family Cars Awards, a panel of six judges considered more than 150 SUVs, minivans, cars, and trucks, including their hybrid and electric variants.

Each model was carefully reviewed both on paper and in person, before being put through real-world test drives. From safety features to cabin layout and everyday practicality, every detail was assessed to determine which vehicles really work best for families.

The Volvo XC90

Taking one of the most competitive categories, the Volvo XC90 tied for first place in the Best Luxury Mid-Size 3-Row SUV category and was also crowned Best Luxury Hybrid/PHEV.

Volvo’s name is synonymous with safety, but with its 2025 makeover, the updated Volvo XC90 exterior and styling has added a new level of presence and refinement. Inside, new sustainable materials, enhanced storage solutions, and improved technology further elevate the overall experience.

Drivers are supported by an abundance of safety technologies, including rear collision warning, cross traffic alert, and a range of Volvo standard driver assistance features designed to prevent accidents before they happen.

The Wow Factor

The XC90 also delivers a real sense of wow factor inside the cabin. Elevated interior materials such as Volvo’s signature Nordico provides a more premium feel across the range, while the iconic Orrefors crystal gear shift adds a distinct touch of Scandinavian style and calm to the model.

The Land Rover Defender

Taking out the title for Best Adventure SUV is the one we all love, the iconic, heritage-built Land Rover Defender. For families, it’s not just about getting from A to B, but having a vehicle that can handle everything in between, from mountain climbs to water crossings, all while carrying the dog, the gear, and everyone in comfort.

Power and Capability

Renowned for its power and capability in almost any condition, the Defender is offered in four variants: the 90, 110, 130, and the special Octa edition. For large families, the 130 delivers up to eight seats and has an impressive 2,516 litres of space, ensuring everything has its own place.

The 110 strikes a balance between practicality and versatility, with seating for six and up to 3,000 kg of towing capacity. It’s ideal for those ready to load up and head off in at a moment’s notice.
